Beach Sessions - Miami Kids Photography
Beach sessions are very fun to do but they can also be a pain to photograph. For this session we started getting ready quite early, in fact a little too early. I worked on my daughter’s hair, put in some curls and left it in a braid until we got to the beach to make sure the curls would hold. I also used a setting spray to help hold the curls in place and to help with the humidity. Like with many outdoor sessions, the single most important thing to keep in mind when doing a beach session is the light and time of day. Plan to arrive at your location about 1 hour before sunset. We got to the beach really early, around 5:30 pm and the sun was still really high in the sky, I tried working around it but the glare made it nearly impossible to get good shots. I did a few backlit shots of my daughter and some of her wearing a hat, but it was just not the ideal time and I wasn’t getting the results I had in mind.

Since we were staying at a house that was a block from the beach, we walked back to the house and waited until around 7 pm, sunset that day was around 8:30 pm. Since sunset time varies depending on the time of year, I would suggest you check the weather app for sunset time, and plan to arrive at your location 1 hour early.
For my clients I would recommend to not stress too much about all the little details. Beach sessions are all about relaxing and capturing memories with your family. Plan your outfits in advance, muted pastels work best, avoid all white or black outfits. Bring a change of clothes, and definitely leave the shoes at home, bare feet is the way to go. Keep the props and makeup to a minimum, style hair with some fun beach waves that will still look good in the humidity and salty air.
Last but most important of all, remember to have fun, be yourself, and the pictures will come out great.
